Jag ringde upp Freddie Meadows, som befiiner sig på tävlingsstranden i Spanien, för att kolla läget och se hur det går i tävlingen:

Nirre: Hey Freddie! Whats happening in the comp?

Freddie: Hey Man! I'm stoked! Everything is going great down here! The waves are pretty big, its a good vibe and I won my second heat!

Nirre: Congratulations! Tell me about your heat?

Freddie: Yeah it was good. I had the Portugese #1 and Israel #1 in my heat so it was pretty tough but I surfed good and got the waves I wanted. I think I got a 7 and a 7,5 in my heat and that was enough to win it. So I'm stoked!

Nirre: Sweet! You're the man Freddie! Have you gotten any good surf away from the competition?

Freddie: I actually surfed one of the biggest waves of my lilfe yesterday! It was me and my Norweigan friend, who I'm staying with, that were out trying to catch some monsters. The wave I caught was actually a huge closeout, must have been 3 or 4 times overhead, but I thought: Man its so big I just have to surf it. And I did!

Nirre: Sounds like you're having a good time! So what's next?

Freddie: I'm through to the quarterfinals now so I'm just trying to stay focused and surf my best.

Nirre: Sounds like a good plan! Ok thanks for the chat Freddie! Good luck tomorrow!

Freddie: Thanks! I'll give you a call tomorrow and give you an update.
